The Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark (GSENHL), home of abolitionists Ann and Gerrit Smith, at 5304 Oxbow Road in Peterboro, will be open Saturdays and Sundays 1pm to 3 pm from June 1 to August 25. The exterior exhibits at the Smith Estate are open from dawn to dusk year round.
The National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum (NAHOF), site of the inaugural meeting of the New York State Antislavery Society in 1835, at 5255 Pleasant Valley Road, is open noon to 4 pm Saturday through Wednesday from June 1 to July 31, and noon to 4 pm Saturdays and Sundays August 3 through September 2.
The Peterboro Area Museum (PO Box 42, Peterboro NY 13134), formerly the school for the Madison County Home for Destitute Children, is open on Sundays from 2 – 4 pm until September 29.
GSENHL and NAHOF are both on the NYS Underground Railroad Heritage Trail, the Madison County Freedom Trail, I LOVE NY Equal Rights Trail, and are founding members of the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State.
The Deli on the Green, formerly the 19th C. General Store, at 4571 Peterboro Road, Peterboro, is open Tuesday – Sunday with daily specials and an ice cream window.
The historic properties are also open for special events and programs, and for group tours arranged by reservations.
